R. Budd Dwyer: Who Was He?
On November 21, 1939, Robert Budd Dwyer was born to middle-class parents in Saint Charles, Missouri. He did well in school and wanted to pursue a career in accounting when he was older because accounting was one of his favorite topics.
However, he later chose political science as his major and made the decision to run for office. He was tired of the crooked system and firmly thought that the average person could make a big difference in the nation’s corrupt political climate.
Electoral Life
In 1964, while he was running for the 6th district seat in Pennsylvania, he experienced his first significant political success.
The locals valued his leadership, and in 1966, his first term came to an end. However, due to his popularity, he was chosen for two additional terms in 1966 and 1968.
His ambitions, however, went beyond that, and in 1970, he ran for a position in the Pennsylvania State Senate.
He prevailed in the 50th district’s senate elections, and soon after being elected, he gave up his State House seat.
