In July of last year, former NFL wide receiver Charles Johnson was discovered dead in a Raleigh, North Carolina hotel room after going missing and the day before his wife Tanisha had filed a missing person’s report.
After the North Carolina medical examiner’s office made their report public and stated that he had acute toxicity positive for “oxycodone, hydrocodone, and mirtazapine,” his death was now determined to be a suicide.
Charles Johnson purchased a cremation and funeral package.
Charles Johnson’s behavior was unpredictable the week before his death, according to the medical examiner’s report on his death.
According to USA TODAY Sports, “he had been acting strangely over the past week and had just lately bought a funeral and cremation service.”
Johnson was discovered unresponsive on the bed and was pronounced dead on the spot.
He had paid for the lodging two days earlier and had gone home, but when he returned, he had forgotten his wallet, cell phone, set of keys, and car.
Charles Johnson participated in the NFL for nine seasons.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Colorado’s Charles Johnson with the 17th overall choice in the 1994 NFL Draft.
He also played for the Patriots, Eagles, and Bills during his time in the NFL.
After retiring in 2002, he is among the top-16 wide receivers to have ever donned the black and yellow.
