In nighttime battle on islets in Lake Chad, the Niger government reported on Wednesday that the army had killed some 40 Boko Haram jihadists.
The military ministry reported that some 100 Boko Haram members attempted to attack troops on the lake’s islets after arriving in four substantial wooden canoes and an armed speedboat. The lake shares a border with Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Chad.
Following that, there was an operation in the area that “lead to the neutralization of about 40 combatants” and the collection of a number of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.
According to the ministry, an improvised explosive device blew up the army’s vehicle, injuring seven soldiers.
