Mark Traub Obituary – Death : Retire NBC Senior Stage Manager Dies At 64
Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb are paying respect to Mark Traub, Today’s longtime floor director, who passed away on December 6 at the age of 64 after a battle with illness.
On December 7, Hoda commented under a picture of him posing on the Today program set, “Certain people come around once in a lifetime.” “That person was Mark Traub. He directed our floor for many years, and he made us feel special. I hope you are aware of how much we still adore you, Mark. RIP, dear friend.
Al, who has been off the air since just before Thanksgiving due to a blood clot, also left a moving note for his friend who passed away.
He added beside a picture of himself and Mark hugging, “The chuckle you always heard in the background for years on @todayshow was our stage manager, @mtraub2295, and when he retired, some of our spark disappeared.” “Sadly, after a protracted struggle, the light has vanished. Mark, be careful. We really miss you.”
Savannah sent the retiring floor manager two pictures of herself and wrote, “This lovely person has passed away. Mark Traub gave freely of his heart, his knowledge, and, above all, his lovely laugh. For almost 40 years, he served as our studio’s lifeblood. I’m really sorry he’s gone. We send our condolences and thoughts to his loving wife Lisa and their family.”
Beginning as a page and then making his way to Today, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 2019, Mark spent four decades working for NBC.

And it’s not just the present hosts of Today who are mourning and loving their friend. A touching tribute was also shared by former news anchor Katie Couric, who shared a photo of the two of them at the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004.
Katie commented, “My heart is breaking this morning. “I didn’t check my phone when I came home last night because I forgot it. My friend Mark Traub, who served as the Today Show’s head stage manager for 35 years, passed away yesterday after a protracted battle with leukemia, according to the news I received when I got up. I adored Mark, and after we both left the show, we stayed close. He was truly the life and spirit of Today, and you could always hear him smiling in the background, even when the jokes weren’t all that amusing.
She said, “I am giving his gorgeous wife Lisa all my love.” “We appreciate Mark’s kindness, decency, intelligence, and concern for others. You excelled at both your profession and this endeavor known as life. Everyone, enjoy yours. Things can suddenly change.”
